Description
Principles of Online Help Design A practical course intended to teach technical authors the basics of online help design. Includes a practical demonstration and a hands-on online help project, using RoboHelp - the industry standard Help authoring tool.
Writing Effective Brochures Principles and strategies involved in writing effective brochures. Includes a practical demonstration and a hands-on writing project.
Print Production A presentation on how to prepare for an external printing service. Includes a practical demonstration of postscript and PDF production for pre-press and a hands-on printing project.
Interviewing Strategies Techniques and processes for authors conducting interviews with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). Participants have the opportunity to try out their interviewing skills, followed by audience analysis and discussion.
Preparing Effective Presentations Principles of designing effective presentations. Practical demonstration and hands-on practise, using MS PowerPoint.
Layout and Design A practical course on graphic layout and design techniques, for manuals, brochures and other documents using a choice of either MS Word or Framemaker.
Web Design A practical course on Web design for technical authors.
Stress Management What is stress? What are some causes of stress in the workplace for technical authors? How can we reduce stress at work?
Effective Time Management Effective time-management skills and principles for technical authors.
Technical Writing Abroad What's it about? What's it like? What are the advantages? What are the disadvantages? Personal experiences from United States, France, Israel, South Africa and New Zealand.
Planning your Career Preparing a roadmap for your career. Participants have the opportunity to prepare their own roadmap, followed by audience analysis and discussion.

Courses cover a range of topics of general interest to technical authors.

  • All courses consist of a presentation, course work and discussion. Related articles and additional information are provided for each course.
  • Sessions are between 45 - 60 minutes.
  • All courses are lead by an experienced, qualified instructor
